In September 2025, the USCIS updated its citizenship exam to include 128 questions. The version I previously created in Articulate Storyline was based on the 2008 USCIS citizenship exam, which consisted of 100 questions (below).
Problem: The President and trainer of the Chester County Migrant Ministry (CCMM) informed me at the end of September that the 2008 questions/answers would be phased out by the end of October. He needed a new eLearning that could be quickly used in the classroom or on an individual basis to help train citizenship candidates for the new USCIS Citizenship Exam.
Solution and Tools: For rapid development, I chose Articulate Rise with its new AI features and Canva as my tools! I applied the basic content from the new "USCIS 2025 Civics Test Study Guide, One Nation, One People," to Articulate Rise's AI features to quickly create the framework of the course. The remainder of the work was gathering images, creating AI images, adding various interactivity, knowledge checks, creating a quiz draw, and fine-tuning for clarity and flow.
Learning Strategy: To create each lesson with some repetitive content for the purpose of recall and retention. The candidates would review and interact with the content in various ways by the end of the course. There are 11 lessons, each with its own knowledge check, as well as a summative assessment containing the USCIS 2025 128 questions at the end.
Insight: The AI features were very helpful in generating the foundation of the course, including some images and editing. This project took me several weeks to do as I balanced other tasks, but I enjoyed creating it! I hope that it is meaningful and helpful. I look forward to the feedback.
National Mall Citizenship Tour Instructional Design Document
National Mall Citizenship Tour Storyboard
National Mall Citizenship Tour eLearning
Brochure, Poster, Presentation
Tools: Microsoft Word
Background:
To become a naturalized citizen of the United States, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requires that qualified immigrants (known as candidates) pass an interview and exam presented by a USCIS officer. To pass this exam, the current requirements are to:
Respond in English and answer appropriately to a series of questions from the candidate’s citizenship application
Write one of three random civics/history-related sentences correctly to demonstrate an ability to write in English
Read out loud one of three random civics/history-related sentences correctly to demonstrate an ability to read in English
Correctly read, speak, and write the designated English vocabulary for the interview and exam
CCMM provides a traditional instructor-led course for these candidates to assist them in gaining the skills and knowledge needed to pass the USCIS interview and exam. Currently, the course uses traditional instructor-led recall methods to practice speaking, reading, writing, and interpreting English to pass the exam’s 100 U.S. civics and history questions and answers.
Challenge:
CCMM wants to supplement and update its current traditional course with a digital training solution covering 100 U.S. civics and history questions and answers for use inside and outside of the once-a-week class to provide:
The trainer with a structured, interactive, and visual way to present and coach this content for memory recall
The candidates with additional practice experiences in recalling the content needed to pass the USCIS citizenship interview and exam
Solution:
Design an eLearning instructional solution centered around the U.S. National Mall. This solution would take candidates on a civics and American history virtual tour of U.S. landmarks and memorials throughout the U.S. National Mall to pass the USCIS interview and exam and obtain U.S. citizenship.
The eLearning could be implemented using a variety of approaches:
One-on-one trainer and citizenship candidate (learner)
Self-paced practice for the candidates
Classroom instruction led by the instructor for up to 15 candidates
Objectives:
Answer 100 USCIS questions with at least an 80% accuracy before participating in a mock interview and exam with the instructor
During the mock interview and exam, the candidates will be able to answer at least 6 out of 10 random questions correctly to prepare for the USCIS interview and exam
Results: The stakeholders were excited about the plan and began looking for grants to purchase tablets for the candidates.
Received: Learning Architect Credly Badge from IDOL Courses for this achievement
*The link to the storyboard for the CCMM's National Mall Citizenship Tour contains the first two modules and 10 questions from the 100-Question Summative Assessment.
Tools: Canva and Google Slides
Purpose: Design a framework for developing a U.S. National Mall Citizenship Tour. This tour will provide the citizenship candidates (learners) with the civics and American history needed to recall the questions and answers for their United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) interview and exam.
Solution: Create a landing page/map for the candidate to select thirteen (13) landmarks and/or memorials to explore the content required for the USCIS interview and exam. Each landmark launches a separate module and includes a knowledge check. Candidates may also supplement their learning and writing practice by downloading and printing USCIS PDFs from the eLearning's Resources as a "tour guide" alongside these modules.
Storyboard screenshot of the U.S. National Mall map that launches the eLearning. Each landmark is a separate module.
An additional module was added for the 100-Question Summative Assessment.
These modules/landmarks include:
Washington Monument
Memorial to the Signers of the Declaration of Independence
Constitution Gardens
Jefferson Memorial
George Mason Memorial
Lincoln Memorial
World War I Memorial
Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial
World War II Memorial
Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial
Korean War Veterans Memorial
Vietnam Veterans Memorial
Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial
100-Question Summative Assessment – Candidates must pass with an 80%
Results: This storyboard became a very large Google Slides document. I recognized that completing all of these modules and landmarks was/is going to take considerable time and effort, but I received positive feedback from the stakeholders on the design of this learning solution.

Tools: Articulate Storyline, Canva, and Audacity
Purpose: To develop an eLearning course using the designed storyboard. To become a citizen of the U.S., you must pass the USCIS interview and exam. This eLearning resource provides local citizenship candidates with an interactive way to review and recall the required American civics and history questions and answers, preparing them for the USCIS interview and exam.
Each of the 16 landmarks or modules is structured with activities, voiceover (Audacity), and formative assessments. Candidates can also download and print PDFs from the USCIS website to be used as a "tour guide" and for additional writing/reading practice. After completion, the candidate is expected to achieve a score of at least 80% on the 100-question summative assessment. Candidates may repeat each landmark and the summative 100-question assessment as many times as needed.
Result: The stakeholders were very pleased with this eLearning! It will be used first as a 1:1, and then the instructor will integrate the eLearning into the instructor-led classes. Candidates will also be able to access this link for their individual recall and study for the USCIS interview and exam.
Received: IDOL Courses issued two Credly badges (below) for my work on this eLearning project.
What I Learned: This was a massive undertaking while I was working full-time! I also learned that Articulate Storyline has issues with files being corrupted. My project crashed, and I had to restart with the pieces and rebuild. In the end, I built it better anyway! Lots of lessons were learned!

Tri-fold Brochure, Poster, and Presentation for Chester County Migrant Ministry (CCMM)
Tools: Canva
My Role: Instructional Designer and Graphic Designer
Challenge: CCMM desired to communicate more awareness of its ministry, what it does, how it works, the people it serves, and how people in the community could volunteer and help support it. There were two problems:
Materials were outdated, incorrect, and needed to be updated.
The community lacked an understanding of CCMM's services, and the correct messaging wasn't well communicated.
Solution: Create a presentation, brochure, and poster that could share information about how:
CCMM serves the community
The community can support CCMM
Information was gathered from stakeholders, and the following was created after several iterations:
Tri-fold brochure created in Canva
Updated content from a previous brochure to highlight current community activities and services
Highlighted how the community could serve to help meet the needs of the ministry and the community
Poster created in Canva
Simplified content from the brochure for raising awareness (NEW for CCMM)
Presentation created in Google Slides
Provided a key CCMM stakeholder with a visual presentation about CCMM that could be shared consistently with local churches and organizations (NEW for CCMM). The purpose is to increase ministry awareness and to secure service and financial support.
Results:
The brochure was emailed to the community, printed and displayed in public areas, handed out during presentations, and shared with local organizations.
The poster was displayed in local churches and community organizations to raise awareness.
The presentation was shared with several churches and organizations, which provided additional clarity on CCMM's mission, what they do, who they serve, and how community organizations can help!
These visuals significantly increased CCMM's support before the holiday season and gave more awareness for their services! The stakeholders were very pleased!
